| The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966) |
greybear ![]() | OK. This is G-APAO (not G-APAD), a 1940 DH82a which is owned by a company which operates a number of vintage aircraft on pleasure flights from Duxford. It does look like G-APAD in the screen cap so it might have been faked for the film. -- Last edit: 2009-01-11 18:56:28 |

| The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966) |
greybear ![]() | The aircraft is a 1932 de Havilland DH82a Tiger Moth with the registration mark G-APAD. It is part of the Imperial War Museum collection at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, England. We are used to cars having fake plates but his may be an example of an aircraft having a fake registration. If the film is set in 1924 the aircraft is an anachronism as it was not built until 1932, and the registration was not issued until 1952. | 2009-01-11 00:26

| 1913 Sunbeam 12/16 The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966) |
john from Staffs ![]() | If the registration was actually U 1404 what do you get then? U followed by 1 to 9999 puts the car as registered in Leeds, UI followed by 1 - 9999 was issued by Londonderry, so it could be either. The pre World War 1 Sunbeam 12/16 had an engine capacity of 3016cc so it looks like the DVLA are wrong again. | 2008-03-12 20:34

Alexander ![]() | That is the one, thanks a lot! Here is an add from 1922 naming it Charron-Laycock 10-25 hp: ![]() I guess that name was still true in 1925. It had a 1460 cc engine and in 1923 received a four-speed gearbox. http://projects.lowtech.org/words-n-wheels/charron-laycock1921.html http://www.britishmm.co.uk/history.asp?id=214 |

Sunbar ![]() | Talbot yes. Talbot 75 looks right but engine size is as the 14/45hp? The Talbot 75 had suicide doors on the front but the car here has front doors hinged normally. ![]() Engine size, confirmed as 1666cc according to hpicheck, the 75 had a 2276cc 6 cylinder engine. -- Last edit: 2008-02-16 11:04:06 |

| 1925 Charron-Laycock 10-25 hp The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966) |
Alexander ![]() | DVLA lists it as Chrvon Laycock, first registered January 2nd, 1925 with an engine capacity of 1141 cc. I cannot match the name to a known make. The name Laycock de Normanville is well known as that of a manufacturer of overdrives. Possibly there are connections. |

| 1928 Lea-Francis P-Type The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966) |
Alexander ![]() | It is, but clever as they are they wrote it 'Leafrancis' ... ![]() It is a P-Type first registered on June 7th, 1928 with an engine capacity of 1465 cc (which is close enough to the original 1496 cc). Here is a picture: http://www.britishmm.co.uk/history.asp?id=546 |
