Mein Herz in Chile (2008) ingo DEThanks, that you are thinking about me :) But...err... Opels weren't really rare in South and Latin America in the 50ies and 60ies, before WWII neither. Later on GM has closed these markets for Opel. One of the many nails in the coffin, which will cause the medium-date collapse of Opel.

The times are gone, where Chile was one of the countries, where you can spot classic car in daily use. The introducing of the German TÜV-inspection was one of these reasons.

So this sight in November 2006

was not only the Southernmost NSU (CKD-assembled in the 60ies) of the world (in front of the car museum in Punta Arenas), it was also the only one, I could spot there.

A propos TÜV-inspection: officially it's quite strictly handled in Chile, but in the outer borough of Valparaiso (in fact the outest place of the whole world), the Rapa Nui's are still relaxed.
Yes, it was in daily use:

Are you sure this were made in Argentina, and not in Portugal?

No, I'm not. The systematic, where GM is producing what cars, and in which countries there will be there will be delivered, is often not recognizable for me.

One example: I'm living not far away from an Opel-plant (the Astra-/Zafira-factory in Bochum). Often you can see trucks from Southern Poland (there is annother Opel-factory), delivering Astra's and Zafira's to Opel-dealers next to this factory (from some of them the factory is visible). Then the empty trucks are driving to the factory and are loading -Astra's and Zafira's, what else- on and are going back!?!
