The company began as precision manufacturer of musical instruments and began in 1904 to build the Oldsmobile "curved dash" under licence. The company was then called "Polyphon Musikwerke AG", Wahren, (near Leipzig) and the car was called Polymobil.
From 1909 the company was called "Polyphon-Were AG" and the car changed its name to Dux. The first model with that name was called E12 and had a 6/12 HP engine.
In 1916 they changed its name again to "Dux-Automobilwerke AG" and was finally in 1926 taken over by Presto.
