This picture was taken during a race in Havana if I remember around 1958 but I should check , do'nt have documents left .Several Ferraris were entered, among them Olivier Gendebien's Ecurie Nationale Belge and Alfonso " Fon " De Portago's car think 3 litre Testarossa( may be one of those here).A large part of the race course was along the port and in town with crowds flocking near to the track.Must have been dangerous. |

Did some further research here .The Ferrari in front is a 250 TR ( Testa Rossa ) 2953 cc V12 Scaglietti pontoon spider of 1958 . The race is the Gran premio de Cuba in Havana and so probably the somber 1958 edition during which Fangio was taken as an hostage and which was not fully run due to a tragic crash killing many spectators.Racing number of the car seems 32 and according to the non championship races databank it did not finish ,but I have no names of drivers. It could also be Gomez-Mena's Testa Rossa that crashed during the practice.Stirling Moss was finally declared winner on another Ferrari. The picture here was taken on the Maleçon , Havana's big front avenue by a reputed Cuban Photographer ,Delio Valdez who covered the event.De Portago and Gendebien finished in the previous 1957 edition. |

Great investigation, Pilou... What barchetta.cc mentions over the car #32 at the 1958 GP of Cuba... : http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0722TR.250TR.htm The car following is possibly the 500 TRC driven by Porfirio Rubinosa... -- Last edit: 2007-04-05 15:38:33 |
