M4 Sherman, only the M4 and the M4A1 had the engine hatch that opens in this way, the A2 and A3 had hatches that open to the side and the A4 had a longer hull. The M4A1 had cast armour so it couldn't be one of those either, leaving the M4 as the only possibility.

Cheers @andrepa, that one definitely isn't an M4A4

I agree this one would match a British or Comonwealth one in Italy. :)
