@andrepa: No side strip should exclude 300 SE W112. Grille with finer mesh should exclude cars made post 1968 (that is 280 SE). Bearing that in mind, it still has black wheels. That might exclude the 250 SE (wheels painted in body colour) and point towards an early model. Yes, I believe you're right. That is a 1962-65 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Kabriolet [W 111]. Seams worth putting on the road again, a good one of those is worth upwards of EUR 100.000. (Which is why spare parts to my (much less valuable) 250 SE [W 108] is that expensive.) |

my dream has been allways to get such a classic 6cyl back on the road again, so it is no wonder i allways flirted with 250 SE [W 108] , too as it is the most affordable to purchase... Well, dear zodiac , you may have prevented me from doing it fortunately Today i have changed broken fuel hose on my 24 years old BMW 320i for 1€ a brake sensor 11,50€ is all to spent for spare parts right now i have purchased it for 707€ 1/2 year ago, to have the feeling of driving an in line six cyl it has 150.000 and will last the next 24 years as i only drive 3000 a year... |

@andrepa I'm glad to see you prevent the garages to earn money, they're wealthy enough as it is... I hope I'm not discuraging you from buying a W108, I just wanted to say that one has to be aware of what to buy as a bad purchase might cost much more than the car is worth. If you're looking for one I'd rather you didn't buy a rusty one and nor a 250 S or a 250 SE as they (at least MY 1965 and 1967, possibly longer) had one built in engine destroyer in having no cooling duct in the middle of the engine which could lead to piston ring seizure and high oil consumption. That usually happened at long distance travelling at full speed. In the 280 models that was deal with and no longer a problem. And I'm not aware of any problem on the (aluminium) 300 SE/SEL engine other than a very complicated ignition system. My 250 SE is a memory of a dear uncle, and has been present in my life as long as I can remember. Actually even longer as it was present at my parent's wedding in 1970 (I was born in 1971). |

One topic about the W111 Coupé and Cabriolet, which makes a restoration more difficult and expensive is, that it was also back then a not only a high priced High End car, it's mainly the fact, that it was -except the 600- the last handmade Mercedes Benz. But well, dreams exist to be dreamed... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy2ZGn-eqqI |
