Late 1948 Perthshire plate used as local taxi to pick up the lad from home to take him down to school bus. Commentary calls it a shooting brake, which in the commentator's posh clipped accent becomes "shooting brick".

Alvis TA 14.

At this time the purchase tax on cars costing over ú1,000 was 66 2/3%. Commercial vehicles were tax exempt, quite a few Alvis, Lea Francis and similar chassis were bodied as shooting breaks, which were considered as commercial. The only snag was the speed limit applicable to such vehicles, 30mph.
