Do vented wheel covers mean 280 S/SE instead of 250?? |

@dsl: Not necessary, it just says it's a 1968+ MY. That is as Mercedes then painted all wheels black instead of the body colour and had a hubcap covering the whole wheel rather than a small hubcap and a big chromed wheel embellisher. It also simplified the tyre choice as the embellisher was very vulnerable when driving close to a curb, where tyre manufacturers (at least some of them) made an extra moulding on the side of the tyre in order to prevent that to happen. Those tyres are ultra rare today. Almost no 250 SE were equipped with the latter wheels, but the 250 S remained in production until March 1969, albeit they were by no means common. But having that said, this has the single exhaust pipe of a 250 S, the finer mash grille common on the earlier models, and a 1968+ door mirror. I'd say this might be one of those rare 1968 250 S. |
