AGO 311 = March 1933 to Jan 1934 "allocated in blocks".

Looks to be car-based and quite a big one, with a slightly v radiator. Out of left field - could this be a Crossley Golden?

Obviously a rare vehicle with few if any survivors. Is this Hillman/Humber based? Or maybe it is US Chrysler product based. When I first looked at it my first thought was early 1930s Chrysler product. Along the lines of some of these - http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/history/segment3.html

I'm still trying to find more about it; little detail found so far.

However it was probably the successor to the 1932 Hillman 15cwt van based on the Hillman Wizard chassis. Although the CM article was wriiten before it was introduced, so possibly it also took the Commer name later.

Confirmed September 1932 introduction based on the Hillman, but little actual detail...

Commer Cars, Ltd., is now introducing a 15-cwt van, based on the Hillman van recently road-tested by us. The Commer vehicle, however, is superior as regards engine power, engine suspension, frame details and bodywork. The chassis price is £190, and the complete van sells at £230.

Found a B&W book picture of a staged line-up of 6 of these beasts in Pratts livery - dark (black?) body and pale (white?) roofs. Caption describes them as 1934 Commer 15cwt vans "... an impression of a fast vehicle, as indeed they were for they used a 20hp six-cylinder engine which was also used in the largest Hillman car range. This fleet was used for petrol pump servicing." Plates are ALR 298 to 300 (London Aug-Sept 1933) and AXR 251 to 253 (London Feb 1934).
