Celeste or Lancer Celeste? |

IIRC, in Europe, early ones with round headlights were called Lancer Celeste, and the face-lifted ones just Celeste. But the ones we have on the site don't necessary reflect that. And I don't know if Hong Kong used the same naming convention as Europe. |

BK plate was March 76. In UK this was just Colt Celeste with round lights from Oct 75 launch until Jan 79 facelift with rectangular lights and black bumpers. |

To whoever put A73 as chassis code : that was for some 1600 versions. Others had A77, while the 1400 had A72. Without knowing which one this is, I'd put A70. |

It was me - UK 1600 (ST and GS) was A73, and 2000 (GT) was A78. But A70 may be more sensible ... |

Wait, how do you have the issue sequence for HK plates as well? I would truly like to know! As for the car, HK should follow Japanese naming conventions more than Europe. -- Last edit: 2016-05-02 13:25:47 |

This 2004 book ![]() has one page of HK sequences from 1972 to 1997 in its 800 pages, plus some info on earlier plates. But it's not comprehensive, and the HK system often throws up newer plates on older cars, which I'm guessing means that second-hand cars had to be re-registered by new owners. So not as useful as it might appear at a quick glance. But where car and plate dates match (as here) likely to be correct. |

INteresting that you have more exact dates for the plate sequences. Yes it's the same case in Australia as well. Many older cars have newer plates because the plates have been stolen/damaged, faded out (a big issue in Victoria on plates issued between 1977-92), car has been imported or they've changed owners. 1976 does seem about correct however, as my Dad had a 1976/77 Corolla Wagon in HK with the plate 'BR-5952' as his very first car about 35 years ago or so. -- Last edit: 2016-05-09 01:28:13 |

For those who has not the book you mentioned. This page contains data about registration sequences, though not full list of sequences. You can still know about the sequence of the plate. Just select from the pull down menu to scan from year to year. Completely free and data is online. From the source provided, BK2811 registered at HK about 1976/3 - 4... -- Last edit: 2016-05-14 14:18:13 |

Thanks! So it seems the Corolla was first registered around 1977/11/13 or so... -- Last edit: 2016-05-16 12:04:28 |
