Described as the "old steam engine" - these should all be the same one as it's coaxed back into life

It is a ploughing engine. That is enough to make it interesting and worth pursuing. Probably dates from the 1880s or not much later. I am not well up on traction engines but surely not every maker made the ploughing units.

You can see in the main pic it is a ploughing engine by the wide front wheels. This one has a distinctive front door on the smoke box. Most of the more well known makers had the door hinged on the other side. I haven't found one on the net that looks like this one - hinged on the left side and with those four large rivets.

Is there a frame or two before or after the main pic which shows more detail of the steam engine works on the top of the machine? I am leaning toward this being a McLaren but I don't really know at this stage. From my research it would seem that Fowler were the biggest maker of ploughing engines but I think this one is not a Fowler.

Its almost certainly a McLaren ploughing engine...

The overall size, motion and reduction gearing all match so probably 12 n.h.p. also and just possibly the same engine. Almost all details match except for the lined boiler bands as painted on the latest pictures and the height of the coal bunker.
