Puzzling detail. Definitely Jag hubcaps - not Daimler - and the wheels are late - I think 84+. No vinyl on roof, but lots of chrome. Probably a Jaguar Sovereign but they should have alloys. Not a government car because that degree of tinting for front windows was illegal (although many people did it for a time.) |

Daimler grille and that's a D badge. http://car-from-uk.com/ebay/carphotos/full/ebay188042.jpg http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C617942 -- Last edit: 2016-02-20 15:08:13 |

Still think the wheels are dodgy, but everything else goes to 84+ Daimler, with the only version without vinyl roof from that point being 4.2 Vanden Plas; if it had vinyl it would be 5.3 Vanden Plas. |

Why is it dodgy? The first link I've given you shows clearly that wheel design with a Daimler logo. I just think the pixellation is what's making the hubcap logo look more Jag head than D. And can I just say I'm not that keen on this practice of putting 4.2 in the model name field. -- Last edit: 2016-02-20 15:36:56 |

After 1984 (when Sovereign was switched to Jaguar) 4.2 and 5.3 became the model names, not just added tags. I know we've batted this round before without you convincing me or me convincing you ...... |

Because the 84+ 4.2 and 5.3 both had alloys. But using your links, the wheel design seems a year or two earlier and both attached to Sovereigns. I'm guessing the July 81 revamp was the introduction point, so 1982-83 Sovereign (without needing 4.2 this time ) should probably keep both of us happy?? |

Here's the 1982 range brochure: http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/82inpursuit.html Can't it also be a Vanden Plas? Ignore the bit about side-tags some later Sovereigns (presumably the 1983 model year ones?) have them too. The wheels are just standard XJ wheels with chrome hubcaps put on as I see it (though the Daimlers in the brochure are hubcap-less so maybe another change for 1983?). EDIT: Definitely ignore the brochure comment on side tags, even 1982 Sovereigns can sometimes have them. -- Last edit: 2016-02-20 17:36:59 |

But it was the model name and was badged as such and (presumably) referenced as such in the brochure: https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5733/22881966556_5d253a91bb_b.jpg It's better to differentiate this as a particular version rather than list them (wrongly) as Sovereigns (which somebody did before). What I'm not sure about is why they have Vanden Plas in the extra info as this relates to another version. My feeling from when I briefly looked into it (not in detail) was that the '4.2' (with no reference to Vanden Plas in badge or brochure) replaced the 'Vanden Plas' 4.2 at the same time the Sovereign became a Jaguar. |

If the car would be Rootes-crap, cl82 would say, it's the shredder's crane in the background. |

After that 1982 brochure, I think these domed hubcaps become 1983 only, but I'm convinced they were a specific change. G-mann's link to a grey Sovereign A454 SUV is recorded as 1 Aug 83 plate, and his silver link A695 HPF was 22 Sept 83. |
