It should be 1988. This one /vehicle_879065-Alfa-Romeo-75-162B-1988.html arrived later, episoded from 1990 on. It's a different car not only due to the plate, but also due to the rear model badging which is different

Matula's 2nd Alfa Romeo 75, used from episode 9.06 ("Die Quittung", filmed 1989) to episode 10.05 ("Tödlicher Irrtum")

This facelift was launched in October 1988, so I believe it should be MY 1989? @bux_48

Yes, indeed. I think I will go through 75s sooner or later, there are many small changes in its career, and many details to recognize some versions :) I just have to gather all the infos and to find the time :D

Watching this series can be helpful to identify the model years from the 75 to the 159, as Matula was provided with a new model everytime there was some change (same for the lawyers' cars). For what I know now, I think the scheme could be:

06.1985: 1985 Alfa 75 (launch model)
03.1987: 1987 75 (mixed model with newer script and Twin Spark engine)
10.1988: 1989 75 (facelifted model with scripts on right)
11.1989: 1990 75 (scripts moved to left and G-Kat for basic models 1.6/1.8)
12.1991: 1992 75 (run-out model limited to 1.6 IE and 2.0 TD)

Matula used the 1987 (F-J 6801), 1989 (F-YY 762) and 1990 models (F-C 4291), all with the 2.0 Twin Spark engine. He didn't use the 1985 as cars were then provided by Audi, neither the 1992 as he switched to the new 155

Yes these are the main exterior changes. There were some interior changes too in half-1986 in which commands derived from the Alfa 90 were replaced by newer ones. I think you meant 1989MY has script on the right and 1990MY on the left :)

Also, on early models, the hood changes (TD models had a very slight high relief, later adopted also by TS and with the 1989MY by all versions), and the exhaust position also can help to ID the engine.

Sure, I switched them by mistake (that's maybe because I'm not much interested in politics and I cannot distinguish left and right? :D )

Anyway, you are right about the other updates, I have to check one of my Alfa Romeo books where there is something like this described (although we would need a more detailled source maybe  )

Indeed it's not very easy to date all these updates, because sometimes they didn't even came together
