Unusual production date because BMW 503 was assembled 5/1956-3/1959. |

DVLA - error on restored car I guess. |

...by English Wikipedia. German Wiki says 5/1960. BMW RealOEM page shows 1/1955-9/1963 assembling time: first date isn't strange (this source is counting prototypes and pre-production cars also) but second date is interesting. |

Most spare parts catalogues use 5/1961 as the last month of production. I think DVLA gives correct year. |

Plate was issued early 1961 in period series; Glass's says UK sales stopped Dec 59, and implies that was production end at chassis 69-406. Wiki says 413 were made and "A 1957 BMW 503 Coupé appears in the BBC drama Father Brown, episode 2, series 4, The Brewer's Daughter, first broadcast January 2016." |

Don't overlook RealOEM (scroll down). I think they know best. It could be one-of monthly 'production', or for special demands. RealOEM knows about superlate 1964 501 V8s (for police / fire departments only) which Wiki overlooked. |

BTW, it reminds me famous event, almost 10 years ago. |

I think considering the small number of RHD 503s made this might not necessarily have been logged as part of UK sales or might even be a car that started life elsewhere with a subsequent RHD conversion. The 57 date could just be someone looking at the 57 on the plate. This is one of those cases when we really need info on the specific car. |

Photos unavailable but text is crucial. Edit: BMW 503 Coupé 1957 for sale by private seller: 'An exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire one of just three RHD fixed head coupés. Family ownership 1961-2010. (...) Starring role in BBC1 Drama 'Father Brown" 5th January 2016'. -- Last edit: 2016-01-12 09:38:21 |
