https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_R'nessa according to wikipedia, produced from oct. 1997 to july 2001. Do we make it 1998 ( by october many cars are already sold as 1998 ) or leave it 1997 ? |

I'd prefer 1997, but imcdb seems very attached to the concept of model years, which doesn't exist in Japan, so I've put 1998. |

If Japan doesn't use the system, don't apply it. |

Really ? I've read the opposite before. I mean, to take an example, in Japan, the Honda Mobilio was launched on December the 21st 2001, and is still considered as a 2001 car. Link to "ja.wikipedia.org" However, every Mobilio on imcdb is dated 2002, because model year, not exact year. /vehicles.php?make=Honda&model=Mobilio&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on And it's the same for the second and third gen. Toyota Vitz, and probably a few other models. |

Altough I don't like the model year concept I believe it is better to use it in a unified way in order to avoid mistakes. Not only Americans but French, Scandinavians, British and occasionaly the others have used the modle year scheme... |

I agree but it's not a huge problem on cars that are sold only in Japan (though sometimes imported elsewhere later in their lives) like this one. |
