1951, not '52. |

Why? It has taillights in the fins and the old bumper, so 1952. Model would be Corsair (Standard) due to the painted wheeltrims. |

You must have a better monitor than I do because I see no tail lamps in the fins but do appear to seen them inset at the base, as the 1951 models have them. |

There's dark spots on the edge of the fins, they look like taillights to me. The inset ones are probably these optional foglights. |

OK. If you are convinced you see tail lamps in the fin tips, we will leave as 1952. |

Hold on, now. First thumbnail clearly shows a '51 front end. Changing back to 1951. |

That's a different one ... I could give it a separate page, though. -- Last edit: 2015-12-28 19:32:56 |

Sorry. Thought it was the same one. |

No worries |

You are still years too early for rear foglights. These are retroreflectors |
◊ 2015-12-28 19:42 |
True. There wouldn't be fog lights at the rear, anyway. I think the reference was to back-up lamps. |

If it had tail lights in the fins, the round earlier style would be reverse lights |

It's a '51 or possibly a '52 Vagabond which was a left over '51 that was retagged as a '52. It appears the dark spots on the driver side fender tip is a shadow, the passenger side rear fender tip clearly does not have a tail light on it. The inserts referred to in the later post are not fog lights, they are after-market reflectors inserted into the later car and are not original. You see that a lot on restored examples because the 'K' emblems were cheap and rusted out so people put the old style tail lights or reflectors in the holes. Fog lights are amber and are only mounted on the front. Also, a '52 would not have the earlier grill so it has to be a '51. There were no '51 Corsairs. The Corsair moniker was not adopted till 1952. The car is a standard as it has no bumper guards, painted grill trim and small hub caps. -- Last edit: 2017-01-28 23:16:48 |

I guess you've seen these cars in real life? Seems there is no room for the spare wheel behind the bumper - all Vagabond had external spare wheel? The Standard would fit for the majority of Norwegian imports back then, yes. Should still be listed as 1951 but Vagabond info (that would make it a 1952) should be removed BTW rear fog lights would have to be red. They are allowed in US but not mandatory, still mostly seen on import cars so that could be why you don't know about them. Introduced almost thirty years after this car was made. |

No, not all '52 Henry J Vagabonds had a continental spare on the back. They were advertised that way but that's not how it happened. The '52 Henry J Vagabonds were made from left over '51s that had not been sold. Some were converted at the factory before they shipped, others were converted at dealerships. If the dealer did not have the parts or painting facilities in place, then the car did not get the tire on the back, it just got the updated hood ornament and 'Vagabond' fender badge. About 10 years ago, I talked with the fellow who worked for KF and he told about how it was done at the dealerships - some did not get the tire. I've encountered at least half a dozen '52 Vagabonds that did not get the tire on the back. I was not aware of rear fog lights - thanks for that information -- Last edit: 2017-04-29 22:28:32 |
