This is the M3A1 of mid 1942. Note the rear door w/o step, full length mine rack and center mounted fuel tanks of the M3 and the ring mounted MG along with side and rear MG pintles of the A1.

Oh!ů Fine.

But my sources have it all wrong, which speak of october 43 for the M3A1.
Where could I find reliable documentation, 4x4peru?

@ Didier, It is always a pleasure to read your comments regarding vehicles for which we both share enthusiasm. Is your question about the date or the vehicle model? Clearly this vehicle has the features of the M3A1 as mentioned initially. The date could be in error. David Doyle's "Standard Catalog of US Military Vehicles" references mid-1942 for the "recommendation" by the Ordnance Department of the M49 Ring Mount to replace the previous Pedestal Mount. The new vehicles were classified A1 (M2A1, M3A1, M5A1). Your reference states Oct 1943 for actual vehicles which may be more accurate? Would seem an incredibly long period between trial and production during war time. In addition to the ring mounted .50 M2HB the vehicles were fitted with side and rear MG pintles for the .30. Late 1942 the side "mine racks" were added but this included retrofitting earlier vehicles too. All these M3A1 features are visible in the photos.
If more accurate information indicates 1943 that is great but the vehicle itself has been incorrectly listed as an M2.
Best regards.

Merci, 4x4peru. (And I see that, indeed, the correction hadn't been done. My apologies.)
