It's a conspiracy for annoying cl82: a rusty Ford-clunker, but 2x shiny Rootes-crap behind :o

I think the "clunker" is 1600E - is there a shot which might show rear pillar logo. Agree one Roote-jewel visible (orange Avenger), but wondering if red with black roof is actually Volvo 144 instead of Hunter.

No Volvo, it's clearly a Paykan-copy

OK agreed. What threw me was the apparent 3rd side window seen through the cabin, but it's white internal pillar trim. And then I started to get excited at the prospect of a 1975 Hunter Topaz edition

but no Rostyles or side indicators. So I'll console myself with a Marmite sandwich.

Far right, hidden by the crunchy Cortina-clunker, isn't that a Reliant Scimitar?

next Saturday morning will be the appointment.

.... and now it's definitely a 73-74 Hunter. Plus the 1600E bit on the Cortina starts to look dodgy as there is no black paint on rear trim panel. It's not a GT as no shield on rear wing, so that leaves Super for the rear trim, with 1600E wheels. OWF with G was Sept-Oct 68. Those fans of rusty Brit things may like to know that Ford's Silver Fox metallic had a spectacular tendency to peel off in sheets to expose the primer.

This was not better elsewhere. So Volkswagen was incapable to offer durable metallic-paintwork up to the late 70ies. I remember Beetles and Typ3 with white-powdery roofs and bonnets back in the early 80ies. And yes, at my K 70 this problem increases, although it's always stored at a dark place, except the very few tours in the summer. You cannot do anything against it, the paintwork just decomposes by itself.

:D Since I know a thing or two about Ford-products and their built-quality, there's nothing here that annoys or surprises me. I'm fine. Still, it's a bit of a pity because this particular Ford must have looked gorgeous when it was new. Especially this Generation of Cortina looked much more elegant and inspiring than its successor IMHO.

Ford UK had problems with other 1968 metallics doing the same thing - Blue Mink was also notorious. But Saluki Bronze and Fern Green were fine as far as I can remember. And again from memory, Escorts and Cortinas suffered badly, but Corsairs and Zephyr/Zodiac were OK.

Agree Mk2 was the most elegant Cortina - Mk1 was too fussy, Mk3 too bloated.
