After every war there are a plenty of arms factories, which urgently have to switch their programme to civil goods for surviving. Just in Germany they are countless of them, BMW, Messerschmitt, Junkers, Henschel, Volkswagen, Simson and many more. At least every company in the machine- and technology-industries.

Yes, happened actually quite often, not only here. Krupp, for instance, didn`t build locomotives until WW I was over. And Zündapp had its military heritage even right in its name.
