These weren't even common back in the 1970's/80s? You never saw one except in small towns or out in the country,small farmers drove these,or if you did see one in a city,it was something that didn't go too far from home,like small merchants and storekeepers who delivered goods in these? (I think this was what these were originally designed for,like the ones from Italy with the Motorcycle engines?) Recall seeing at least one that was modified to carry sheets of glass,too? |

No, they were already extinct in the early 60ies. The selling rates go back since 1952/53, after the success of the VW Bulli increased. Except in the early post-war-time, where any type of transport-vehicle was urgently needed, it was bought only by people, who couldn't afford more. Of which hadn't the needed drring license. For that reason there was a 250ccm-version for the holders of the old motorbike license (until Dec.1954) |
