That's better than nothing That category is rather for showcase concept cars than for test models close to production series I suppose you mean AM General and not Hummer as make -- Last edit: 2016-01-26 19:08:53 |

@ JB: As usual a few searches could help to find somewhat more credible sources and avoid misidentification and more or less fancy identifications. It took me less than 10 minutes to find the following links... @ antp: From what I understand from this page and this one (be careful, this latter has an eye melting blue background ), this is more likely the (late 1981? 1982?) 2nd prototype from AM General for the HMMWV project, with the XM-998 (army?) model code and apparently called at first Hummer to avoid difficulties with 'HMMWV' pronunciation (de). So wouldn't it be better to have it as ⇒ 1981 AM General Hummer HMMWV prototype [XM998]? (1) ⇒ 1981 AM General HMMWV Hummer [XM998]? ⇒ 1981 AM General HMMWV XM998 Hummer? (2) Now the question is: how could one of the 11 prototypes furnished by AM General to the US army appear some years later in a movie? Is it really one of these prototypes? _____ 1: but I think that the 'prototype' mention is really not relevant, in fact 2: as the M-something in the name of the HMMWVs are model codes, shouldn't they appear in square brackets? |
