This car was sold by the real car co. about 15 years ago. It came back on the market 2 years ago having worked as a wedding car in Birmingham and by that time seriously tired. It was bought "unseen" by a dealer who then sold it on at Beaulieu Autojumble using only the photographs he'd received, making a tidy profit! Some people have the gift!! |

Back in the early 1970's I drove this car regularly on behalf of Gurney's Funeral Directors of Wolverton Buckinghamshire as a wedding vehicle. Gurney's didn't own the vehicle; I knew the owner, and it's not right to give out his name, but even then the car was rather less than reliable! Dirty fuel, blocked jets and a shot-to-bits charging system to name but rather a lot were the biggest headaches, so it spent a lot of time sitting on the driveway of my little three-bed semi in Newport Pagnell until I had time to get it running again. (A weird sight given my usual mode of transport was a Morris Minor Traveller!) One story to tell was, having finished a wedding, I had to take the car back to Aylesbury. My then wife was heavily pregnant with our fist child, so I took her with me. No, she didn't go into labour on the back seats, but she was rushed in to the maternity unit moments after returning home. XM 2822 will always hold some very special memories for me. Andy Foote. |

XM2822 was our wedding car on 7th July 1979. It was returning from filming on Brideshead Revisited, when backing off the trailer in nearby Winslow Bucks, the fuel pipe was damaged, (fuel starvation seems to feature in it's history !!!!). The problem was solved, and XM2822 brought my then to be wife to the church, albeit 38 minutes late. Obviously I was forgiven, because we are still married after 45 years. I never saw the car again until 2 years ago, until a visit to Haynes Motor Museum, I was surprised to see XM2822 was the third car in on the left. |
