Followed for almost one minute turning on a Japanese circuit.

Much talk about for the rest of the movie (its launching in a civilian version is central to the plot):

Not only the pics on the wall but another thing make me think that 'Yamano Motor' could be Suzuki.

Here is what a chief-engineer says, with a whining voice:

"People are saying that the Blue Star motor is a rip-off of the German DM motor."

Rings a bell, somebody? MZ-Degner-Suzuki 1961?

Looks like an aerodynamic moped. :D

It is nothing much more than an aerodynamic moped. Able to reach 100 mph and more.

But you put the finger on something: this very one looks like a 50cc suppose to be a 125 or a 175.

(Each time I see the picture, I'm thinking to Nieto's Derbi.)

Very thin chain, small brakes, almost bicycle rims and tyres, only enough room for a small engine under the body ....

I don't know specifically what this machine is but it is a 50 cc Grand Prix race bike - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_cc_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing - these were far removed from a regular moped and were capable od quite amazing performances. In this early era they were producing about 10 bhp - about three times that of a moped but by the end of the 50 cc GP era in the early 1980s they were making over 20 bhp.

Even around the Isle of Man Mountain Circuit in the 1960s the average speeds were impressive - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-Lightweight_TT

If I remember correctly, while MZ, then Suzuki, and Yamaha, made 2-cylinder two-stroke, Honda had a 2-cyl. 4-stroke for the 50 GP. (And a five-cylinder 4-stroke, same unitary capacity, for the 125 GP, in 1966 or 67.)

And Suzuki was developing a three cylinder 50 in 1968 when the rules were changed to limit the 50s to only one cylinder. The machine has survived and been rebuilt and can be found on youtube.

Honda's first 50 racer was a single but they went to a twin early on.

After the Japanese moved away from racing in the 50 class Kreidler dominated it until the end.

(My remembrance was incorrect for MZ: they didn't make 50 GP.)

Yes, Didier it was Ernst Degner who rode for MZ but then defected to the west and took MZ technology to Japan.

I find embarrassing to see this GP motorbike called Custom Made. It is actually a real Japanese racing motorbike, that we cannot name for the moment—maybe some day some one of us will find the documentation about the movie and this very scene, helping to find whether Suzuki, Yamaha or even Tohatsu supplied the machine and the opportunity of filming the sequence.

But having the space filled with Custom Made instead of unknown induce (falsely) that we know what we do not know.

Bonjour, opiniâtres imcdbers.

Hello, happy lasting imcdbers.

It took only few minutes for the seasoned blood-hounds of pit-lane.biz -through, I suppose, a routine rummaging of their millions of documents- to pin this one. The answer is…

… Et la réponse est…

Bridgestone EJR-2 (50cc twin-cylinder racer).

In the guise of / grimé en Yamano Motor Blue Star.

Farewell, happy lasting imcdbers.

Jusqu'au revoir, opiniâtres imcdbers.
