Smooth bumper, so 1964 or earlier (despite 1966 plate), therefore R8. |

That doesn't mean that it's a fake plate: remember that the 1950-2009 French system forced to change the registration of a car when relocating from a department to another. This R8 was sold between 1962 and 1964, but its owner moved in Paris / it was sold to a Parisian in late 1965 (calendar year, so 1966 model year indeed). 1950-2009 French plates are rarely a good clue for identifying a model year -- Last edit: 2015-09-15 00:41:05 |

Yes - I remembered this from a recent discussion, so did not get upset by this plate date. But turning the situation around, can the plate date ever be older than the car in France? So if a plate has 1966 date, the car cannot be newer than 1966?? It's what classical archaeologists who speak dead languages call a "terminus ante quem" date, or ordinary archaeologists like me call an end-date. (In UK old plates can be reissued as cherished numbers, so for instance you could transfer ELM 3R from 1976 onto one of your fleet of Bugatti Veyrons). |

No, it can't. |
