I know "Malibu" is what the sign says but the 2004-2005 versions of these cars were not called Malibu, they were called Classic. They were sold along side the redesigned 2004 Malibu as a fleet vehicle.

This is either a 03 Malibu or an 05 Classic

Probably an 05 Classic since it's supposed to be new

But as it is only available for fleets, could it be used in that role? (well, maybe they just rent the car for the movie...)
It is supposed to be new, but it is not suppose to be a fleet car :D

True. It could be a 3 year old car acting as a new one. I'm still thinking it's a Classic since the movie was made in 2006 and the last year for this car was 2005. They could have bought a used one from say... Avis. Sadly the only way we'll know the truth of what this car is is by looking at the badge in the rear

I watched the movie. They said it was a "brand-newish 2005 Chevy Malibu" so it wasn't exactly a brand new car. It's possible it was a used rental.

Or a new rental (as I suggested: they may have rent the car for the movie).
And "Malibu" sounds better than "Classic".

IMDb lists February 15, 2006 as a production date, by which time fleet sales of the Classic had already ended. So probably a Malibu indeed.
