Main picture originally posted by Alessandro58 as background on main page, but it stuck with me for ...

dsl wrote Estate car bottom left - is it a Cresta [E] estate by Friary? Or something else?? If Cresta, I vote for a page, even if no better view.

Grosvenor Estate conversion on the Vauxhall Velox [E] according to all the information I have found. Ultra-rare I guess, by the Grosvenor Carriage Co., but sold by Vauxhall. A very small view - any further votes for including a listing for this?

Now with DVD upgrade we can get to grips with it. Seems there were 3 estate options on the Velox [E] - nothing for Cresta or Wyvern, all introduced Sept 56 so only the last year of production before PA range and very rare. Grosvenor did 2 different types

1] The "Swansong"

with the shiny inverted triangle behind doors, so matches this one and sunbar's picture

2] The "Shooting Brake" (which might have been first introduced in late 53 according to an imprecise book source, not sure if it was properly made or a one-off)

3] Martin Walter Dormobile conversion (seats could fold down to a bed) - more conventional bodywork

A different book source says that only the Grosvenor Swansong (appropriate name as it was the last Grosvenorised Vauxhall after they'd been a Vauxhall body supplier since the 1920s, and they went bust a year or so later) was factory approved for sale through the dealer network, suggesting the Martin Walter Dormobile (which was also available as a conversion on existing cars) missed out. However, there seem to be Vauxhall press briefings announcing both the Swansong and the Dormobile, and "The Motor" tested a Dormobile in Jan 57.

See here - photos near top of page, press releases further down, and The Motor test at end. Its parent Vauxpedia site seems an amazing collection of stuff well worth wider attention. (For instance I was browsing the other day and stumbled across that the Ranger version of the Opel Rekord C was actually a UK proposal for a new Victor replacement for the FD - abandoned for UK in favour of FE, but ZA took it instead and it was then given to CH as well).

So now we need some Cresta/Velox PA Friary estates (April 59+), Cresta/Velox PB by Martin Walter (Nov 63+) and Cresta PC by Martin Walter again (Jan 67 to Feb 68 only). All very rare and short productions.

And just before we drown under the weight of all this Vauxhallania,
(1) what's the big black thing across the road in upper centre?? No better view, but is it interesting?
(2) lots of traffic lights for rjluna - I think there's nine altogether - a new record in one photo??
