A Volvo as a Japanese taxi? Couldn't they at least find a boxy old Toyota? :)

Well, there are a number of cars sold new in Japan as LHD only.

Yes, for several import-cars the buyer can choose, if LHD or RHD. Some people take LHD. because the car looks more "authentic European", a few others due the knowledge, that the LHD-version of non-UK-origin European cars is better quality than the RHD.
A friend, who worked for 31 years in the prototype-division of the VW-plant Emden, told me the reason: a German car is always developed and constructed as LHD. For creating the RHD, they take a finished prototype and convert it. Which logically contains cobblework. The RHD-K 70 ist one of the worst constructions.

Well, the Japanese highway-police prefers BMW, not only Skylines.

Every one of my last 4 cars, all German, would clear the ice or mist from the left hand side of the windscreen quicker than the right. No good for a quick start in UK in winter.
