ECW low bridge 'decker, probably on a Bristol K chassis. (before I looked it up, you have to start somewhere) Number plate looks like KUO, in which case Southern National Omnibus Company. If KUO 979, Southern National fleet no.966, entered service 1949, to Western National 1963, to dealer 1968, chassis Bristol K5G, body ECW L27/28R. Agree plate could well be 979 - I could not read letters but middle 7 definite, other figures either 3 or 9 and probably paired as 373 or 979. Glass's says KUO was Dorset Dec 48 to Feb 49 with 926 to 999 inclusive allocated to Public Service Vehicles. |

SNOC had 26 Bristol K/ECW low bridge 'deckers that had KUO registrations, all being 9xx. They also had routes in Darzet, although I haven't been able to confirm route 29 from those days was theirs. I think 979 is the best fit, but not all the buses were Gardner 5 powered, earlier in the KUO series were some Bristol K6B, meaning Bristol's own built six cylinder engine. You have to have sympathy with the drivers, spending an 8 hour shift sitting next to a thumping G5, which was bolted directly to the chassis.
