The actual car seen here still exists and is a regular at Chrysler car shows. The car that blows up in the final scene was not this car but a regular four door Australian Valiant painted to look like the Fox -- Last edit: 2007-01-21 11:58:44 |

I read somewhere this was a genuine 440 car |

Makes ya wonder; why use a valiant 4-door, when the two cars look absolutely nothing alike? The pre '71 valiants were based off the dodge dart and (to a certain extent) the plymouth valiant, which are considerably squarer than the challenger. |

This is a matching numbers 440 6 pack car which is still alive and well the last time it was here. |

It was actually a Chrysler by Chrysler two door that was blown up in the final scene on the bridge. Take a close look at the tail lights, long door and the rear window opening shape confirms this. It is similar in size and shape to the Challenger, slightly squarer in the roof profile. Yes the original FOX 1 still exists as well as a couple of replicas. |

In October 2018 we are holding a Running On Empty Festival in Cobar NSW, where much of the film was shot. If anyone knows the whereabouts of any of the cars from the movie, please let me know There is an event page on facebook |
