Le Mans 24 Hours 1952 - #8 Talbot-Lago T26GS [#110056] 4483cc, driven by: Pierre Levegh, (DNS: René Marchand), did not finish (engine), colour: blue - http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1952/Le_Mans-1952-06-15-008a.jpg

Levegh's famous 1952 race when he attempted to drive solo through the full 24 hours but retired with engine failure in the last hour of the race with a four lap lead. The failure was caused by to a bolt in the central crankshaft bearing which had come loose earlier in the race, although many fans placed the blame on driver fatigue. Levegh had refused to let his co-driver take over because he felt only he could nurse the car home. He was killed in the 1955 disasster when his Merc 300 SLR was launched into the crowd.
