this Austin takes Poirot, Hastings and a high ranking state officer to the scene of the "attempted kidnapping" of the Prime Minister.
Another Austin is used to ferry them about as Poirot looks for clues that afternoon and evening.

The word "Six" only indicates that the car had six cylinders, it is not a model name. In this case the name would be the RAC horsepower of the car, followed sometimes by the body type. To find this a view of the number plate would be useful, and then a dip into the books. There is, however, a significant clue in the wheels, according to my book, the only use of Easicleen wheels on this type of body makes it a 1937 Austin Eighteen.

According to Sedgwick and Gillies, the Easicleen wheels were only fitted to these cars in 1937, and only the Eighteen was built in that year, the Sixteen having been discontinued in 1936.

The car in the picture with the sailors does not appear to have the aftermarket draft deflectors. The difference between the Sixteen and the Eighteen was probably just the diameter of the cylinders, and maybe the odd gewgaw on the dashboard. Austins may have found that the smaller engine sold less well than expected and deleted it to reduce inventory.
