Bedford/Miles built alloy body while Dennis contributed f8 pump ; both were part of Hawker Siddeley Group from 1952 on http://essexmodelsandminiatures.co.uk/blog/dinky-bedfordmiles-fire-engine/ -- Last edit: 2015-03-03 22:07:48 |

Probably a TJ , many fire engines were bonnetted TJ Bedfords converted by the bodybuilders to forward control , never really understood why they could not buy an off the shelf forward control chassis. Vehicle still with us (just) in 2008- http://www.fire-engine-photos.com/picture/number1852.asp -- Last edit: 2015-03-04 14:15:00 |

TJ was 58+. How about TA or TD - Link to "commons.wikimedia.org" |

Unforgivable error ! You're right YJH663 is a conversion from bonneted to forward control-1956 means it must be a TA. Which means they did it before the TK , however fire engine builders continued converting bonneted J 's to forward control throughout 60s and 70s. -- Last edit: 2015-03-04 15:24:44 |

CCMV have this very vehicle as a TA together with a rather more obvious TA conversion ( see link) , however IMCD are going for A-Type designation so A-type it is IMHO http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p667549397/h227144c6#h227144c6 -- Last edit: 2015-03-04 09:58:14 |

It will get forgotten eventually as time passes ...... If you think that using TA/TD and whatever other Tx is better system than A Series, D Series etc, do argue the case for The Grand Committee to consider. I don't have the knowledge to do anything more than follow the lines already drawn in the sand .... |

Fresh from beating myself with wet copies of 'Commercial Motor' I agree with A , D , J designation , only Bedford manuals refer to them TJ etc and as my mate Omar says - ''The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.” -- Last edit: 2015-03-04 14:14:18 |

Following the Bedford advertising at the time, only with the introduction of TK did the 'T' prefix become common usage (also subsequently on TJ). However TA, TD etc. was commonly used earlier in house to differentiate them from car model lines by the common Vauxhall-Bedford departments and personnel. The current listings on IMCDb is about right imho. edit: it would also have the consequence of renaming the 'KM' as the TKM which was its actual code, causing more confusion. -- Last edit: 2015-04-06 17:15:21 |
