That Depends on when it is made I think...
A Montego could even be an MG, although this one is not...

I suppose the ones with this type of front badge were only badged as Montego (without neither Austin nor Rover badges).

At first the Montego wore the same 80s Austin badge as the Maestro and the Metro. But later in it's run the cover wore not a Rover badge but a similar-shaped black badge with Montego written on it. I'm not sure if the Montego was ever really sold as part of the Rover marque even though I think the Austin brand had gone by the 90s and just Rover was left. It's strange that they kept making the Montego up to 1995 since the Rover 600 was about the same size and the car was just very outdated in general (not to mention pretty drab). Although I think the estate version was the biggest estate car the Rover Group offered (the only other was the smaller Rover 400 estate) until the Rover 75 estate which came later.

And yes there was an MG Montego (1984-1991) as there was an MG Maestro and Metro. The octagonal MG badge is easy to identify.

'88 facelift Austin-Rover Montego 2.0 GTi (!) Estate. Black roofrails distinguish it from the 2.0 GSi; lack of coachline distinguishes it from Countryman.

I believe some Montegos - possibly run-out models - were sold for use as police cars in Irkutsk!

From the hilarious Heroes And Villians 1996.

Actually, this car wasn't an Austin, because Austin marque was already dropped of the Rover Group, so this could be listed as, Montego as a brand and Estate 2.0 GTi as a model, or Rover Group as a brand (Since it hadn't a Rover brand), Montego Estate as a model and 2.0 GTi as extra info.

If it is from Rover group we could still list it as Rover, like the old Range Rover listed under Land Rover...

Twingoman, did you add a replacement pic for this?

Away from home so can't check details, but I'd expect a GTi to look a bit more exotic - wheels, tints, spoiler, body colour mirrors - whatever. This one looks pretty basic.

There was a replacement pic (I remember seeing the comment) maybe someone thought they had replaced it but hadn't and deleted the comment.

I'd agree that it is not a GTI.

Black mirrors def mean a lower spec model LX /Clubman
Iirc 1989 should be first "Rover" year not 88
