I've never really understood why the Avensis is origin Europe...

Could be origin France since it was specifically developed for Europe by Toyota European design centre (ED2, based in Nice), Or Belgium since the headquarter of Toyota Europe.

I think Japan fits more than anything else.

Sorry, but that's like saying Ford Mondeo should be origin USA.

I mean it's the same with the Toyota Avalon for North America, for example: origin is US because it's thought for North America, locally made and with very few in common with Japanese Toyotas. But I agree that it could be opportune to find a specific country where to 'place' the Avensis' origin.

This could be an interesting topic for the new generation Mondeo, I was thinking at this when I was posting the pics of today: since it's the same as the new American Ford Fusion, which was developed in US (even if with the aid of European design centres in UK and Germany), shouldn't it now be origin USA and made in Spain for EU?

Only for the sedan, which is only available as Hybrid. The Hatchback and the Wagon should be still listed as Origin: Germany.

The first Avensis was made in UK :)

First generation Toyota Avensis Touring / Wagon was also sold in Japan as the Toyota Caldina, which makes me think that at least the first gen wagon could have been a joint venture.
