^^^^^^^ (I think they were) ![]() For a short period of time, around & after when I was born, imported Ladas (and some FSO products) were relatively common in post-Thatcher UK, especially in the North/Midlands, as they were the cheapest cars on the market to buy new (around 3.6K - 5K, if I'm not mistaken). For many, this was better than buying any used car, although Ladas depreciated severely as soon as they were second-hand, as they had a fierce - and comedic reputation for bad handling, interior quality and several other issues including smokey exhausts. As a result, I can't recall seeing a Lada Riva sedan/estate (the estate being the slightly more popular in my area) on the road since maybe 2006. Though the rugged Niva 4X4 still pops up here and there... ![]() |
