None of these porsches are 930's, as a 930 is specifically a Turbo model |

Nice catch dsl on the headlamp rings! The 911SC from 1978-83 was more or less a high-volume version of the 1976 Carrera 3.0. The non-USA cars had nearly identical specs except cam timing was set to favor torque. The USA cars had some differences that slightly reduced power. The engine was the same family as the aluminum 930 Turbo engine (3.0L and 3.3L) but the transmission was a 5-speed instead of the Turbo's 4-speed. The SC's 3.0 engine was exceedingly reliable with the only exception being valve stem seals and for some, timing chain tensionsers and the oil pickup design on early cars. The 911SC replaced the 1974-77 911's that had a magnesium-cased 2.7L engine design that was very troublesome. Handling was great and you could drive the car hard without worrying at all about breaking it! The interior was pretty sparse though later cars gained more luxury. Heat and A/C were poor performers. The coupe had the strongest chassis of course but a huge number of targa's were sold and later some cabriolet's that both gave up some of the car's rigidity. -- Last edit: 2012-09-11 01:08:17 |
