Idiotically faked plate.
a) the "cake tin"-sized plate fits not for US-Cars. US Car-owners prefer (if the authority is not incorrectly asshole-ish) the plate-size for tractors and light motorbikes (plates in correct US-size are not everywhere available)
b) it's to welcome, when people take care about the old pre-Nov.2000 DIN-plates - but it's senseful only with authentic original plates. Only then the higher car-tax is acceptable, compared with the lower rate for a "H-plate" for classic cars. And the tax for a classic US-tanker is incredible high...

Ingo is correct. And also, most US cars with German plates you'll see have a low number. (Ex: "SB-A-1" or "SB-AB-12" or such? This car is from Saarbrucken.) You seldom would see one that was a 4 digit number, but for -maybe- a 1962-64 Chevy or something else that had a lot of room for a larger plate....and even then,it would be the regular sized (not the ones like these) plates? A pair of 'Cake Tin' plates (I called them 'Cookie Sheets' myself?) you might see on something older as well,an early Camaro or Mustang(T-5)comes to mind, but again, only somewhere that used a three letter Kreis (Like "BIR" for Birkenfeld,"KUS" for Kusel,"WND" for St.Wendel, etc)and again,a low number?(Like "BIR-A-1" or such?) But what -really- stands out is the big rear tires and the 'rake' it has......I recall that being quite illegal in Germany!!!
