From Car & Driver: When Nissan introduced the Pathfinder for the 1987 model year, it was an immediate success. Competing with the likes of the Chevy S-10 Blazer, Jeep Cherokee, and Toyota 4Runner, the Pathfinder possessed that rare combination of stylish, rugged looks and venerable on- and off-road capabilities. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/nissan-pathfinder-first-drive-review From Edmunds: Launched in 1986 for the 1987 model year, the original Nissan Pathfinder has roots that run deeper than most midsize SUVs. Initially, the Pathfinder was intended to appeal to the same youthful, active, mostly male buyers that Toyota appealed to with its 4Runner. http://www.edmunds.com/nissan/pathfinder/ From NADA Classic Cars list of available 1986 Nissan/Datsun models: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1986/Nissan-Datsun Finally Ward's Automotive Yearbook has a chart for the "1986 Import Car Retails Sales and Tourist Deliveries", the first sales for Pathfinders were listed in September of 1986. |
