The Safari name didn't stand alone until 1987. Before that, it was a Parisienne Safari (with Safari being a trim level).

Wasn't "Safari" the wagon version rather than just a trim?

In effects, antp, you're right(also UK-market Citroen ID Breaks were named Safari);I had associed Safari name for Pontiacs always at wagons bodies not to the trim fitted

BTW,Parisienne was a Pontiac name also on Canadian market(those but, were locally-built by Acadian-GM Canada and different by US-made counterparts)

The Bonneville was downsized in 1982. This photo is a Parisienne based Safari.

By the looks of the tail lamps, it looks like a '77-79 Catalina Safari. Tail lamps on '80+ didn't have the chrome ribs, instead the red plastic had silver applied to the edges.
