Why? Leyland engine and design.

Leyland motors was the design parent of the Chieftain tank in 1956, production was undertaken by Vickers in Elswick and Royal Ordnance (RO) in Leeds (which was then bought by Vickers).

The Chieftain ARV was Designed by RO and Military Vehicles and Engineering Establishment, and production undertaken by Vickers at Elswick.

While Leyland did the original design subsequent production and development was undertaken by Vickers who subsequently became the design authority (technically now that would be BAE Systems, but I don't think we'll go there).....

Rightly or wrongly the company that manufactured the vehicle is listed on IMCDB not the design company, leading to Sherman, T-34 and T-55 being all over the place, but I guess you've got to have a system. :)
