The one with the radiator below the grille is simply the watercooled version, which appeared in 1982. |

The second grille was first added on Diesel models only, which started in 1982 for North America. When they changed the engine on the gas powered models in mid-1983, from an air-cooled engine to a water-cooled engine, those models also got the 2nd grille.
