Ambulance?… Well, it could be. Not said by the action. |

Ambulance (or less likely police van) yes, but I cannot see a Commer Superpoise 30cwt van here? Which series or year? |

Looks like a Ford to me with American style van body . Dagenham were going to ( did?) introduce American inspired light commercials just before war . Is it a fire service vehicle? bell and roof sign indicate it . There was a lot of weird and wonderful stuff used for towing trailer pumps in the war which lived on long afterwards . -- Last edit: 2014-08-17 16:11:45 |

The proportions look about right with this 'Ford V8 Ambulance' (in commercialmotor.com again!) but no actual model. "An ambulance completes the range of commercial vehicles exhibited by the Ford concern. Mounted on the special Ford V-8 ambulance chassis, the body is fitted for two stretcher cases, one sitting patient and an attendant. Complete equipment is provided and every detail is of high quality." Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" |

It's big, whatever it is - more of a truck-like base than van?? |

Thats as I understood your comment... Something to discuss. However someone confirmed it prematurely. 'Commer Superpoise 25cwt' also was fairly vague so also needed clarification therefore at best it it should have waited for more discussion. |

It could be a "jail bar" Ford front end. Not sure about American commercials being imported whole but the AA onwards were definitely USA inspired, as were the V-8 based trucks. The war changed a lot of plans, with Canadian military pattern vehicles and others coming here in large quantities, and being converted for civvy use after the hostilities ended. There were still a lot of 7Vs around when I was a kid. Looks like a Morris J or JB behind the Consul. |

It looks like a 1940 (US) Ford V8 1-Ton (grille and detached headlamps wise). |

Agree with John on Morris-Commercial identification; agree on Ford vs. Commer, too. Just need to find clearer image of same model. Got the file here somewhere... |

A close contender, the 1939 Dodge 15cwt. However unless the ambulance body behind the scuttle is specific to the ambulance the more rectangular windscreen is not like the curved bottom edge on the Dodge. |
