Technically, you are correct. In '58, the Impala (first year for the name) was considered a deluxe two-door hardtop and convertible version of the Bel Air (there wasn't a four-door Impala) before becoming a full model in 1959. However, even in the Chevrolet brochure and, especially, in the real world (including at Chevrolet dealerships - I know, I went there with my dad!), this model was reffered to simply as "Impala", not the "Bel Air Impala"! Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.org" The "real" Bel Air had only four tail lights: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chevrolet_Bel_Air_1958_2.jpg P.S.: there was a separate Bel Air Sport Coupe. So, it makes sense that they would refer to the other Sport Coupe simply as the Impala, to avoid confusion. https://www.flickr.com/photos/unclegal/9020014505/ -- Last edit: 2014-07-31 16:50:53 |

I had some discussion about the naming convention on about 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air series at /vehicle_117592-Chevrolet-Bel-Air-1958.html It has to do with model number listed at that year. |

Maybe we could include Impala in the model name (i.e. "Bel Air Impala") if it is an important part of it, it can maybe be more than just a trim level if they gave it its own model name the next year. -- Last edit: 2014-08-01 13:13:05 |

If it is important to make this a revision for the 1958 model year only, I am in for that ![]() |
