No surprise there; at one time if a motor vehicle was used on the public highway it had to be licensed. Back in the 50s I remember seeing a normal lawn-size motor mower being used to cut the grass in front of a garden wall - with a full-sized number plate screwed to the grassbox and a tax disc attached to the handle. |

The wheels and platform design appear to be the same as a Greenbat electric truck made by Greenwood & Batley of Leeds. If so it probably dates from the 1930s or 1940s and was only registered for road use later. http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/12th-may-1931/121/industrial-trucks |

Defiantly a "greenbat" I have one that I bought to save it from been scrapped when scrap prices were high! Mine isn't registered for road use but I assume it could be if I went down the right way to do it. Unfortunately not a lot of people seem to know anything about these greenbat electric trucks, I thought there would be some sort of following for them but I can't seem to find anyone with another!!!! |

Have just bought one for restoration. I know of at least three others 'preserved' in UK, of at least two different models. Would be good to compile a distinctive list. I may write to one of the heritage vehicle magazines to see if I can flush out any others. |
