And it's for real,too? Scottsboro,Ala PD did once try out a VW Bug (The story I recall hearing it was a '64 or '65 model?)as a Patrol Car,and it does also look like the old(?)Jackson Co,Ala Courthouse? (Scottsboro is the county seat. I lived 'next door' in Huntsville/Redstone Arsenal(Madison Co,"47" on the plates)three times from 1968-81) |

Some more info about the ads http://alexandergrant.blogspot.no/2010/06/1960s-volkswagen-ads.html According to the ad, the car was bought by Scottsboro PD 'in 1964', but with this number plate light (and knowing that DDB and retouching didn't go together) it's more likely to be 1962-63 as listed. Off topic: A 12-inch snowfall in Alabama some 40 years ago, is that verifiable through old records? |

Sounds like it could be the one that hit Huntsville in 1963?? (Another one about 1969,too...and in 1976/77,I recall that one?)I recall many people talking about it when I was younger...including people 'car skiing'(Just what you think,being towed behind a car skiing?)on Bankhead Pkwy on Monte Sano(Large mountain/state park,southeast side of Huntsville)and out on 'The Arsenal'? Was also a freeze/blizzard in early 1985 that indirectly caused the death of an old friend from my Redstone & Wiley Kaserne,Neu Ulm, W.Germany 'Army Brat' days? (He was riding on an inner tube on an empty snow/ice covered parking lot tied behind a car,and they were out doing 'Figure 8's' and 'Donuts' and such,and the rope broke? He and the Tube hit a telephone pole....No,I wasn't witness to it?) |
