Aveling & Porter, Rochester, Kent only ever made steam powered road rollers until their merger with Barford & Perkins, when they also made petrol and diesel rollers as here. Aveling-Barford is the most likely make becuase their production of road rollers was greater than the combined output of all the other manufacturers. Makers of road rollers not powered by steam were Barford & Perkins, Aveling-Barford Ltd. from 1934 (Aveling & Porter / Barford & Perkins merger) John Fowler & Co. Ltd. Marshall, Sons & Co. Ltd. Thomas Green & Son Ltd. Wallis & Steevens Ltd. Stothert & Pitt. source http://www.r-r-a.org.uk/Roller_Manufacturers.html |
