353 are all Long WheelBase, so is it really useful to have it as complement?
Open Cab gives it a 1944-45 model-year. Could be replace by the MY, then ;)

@eLMer it is a minor point but the military standard open cab was in production on the GMC before 1944. It is often stated on the web as 1944 but that is incorrect (as much of the www is). Numerous photographs and publication from 1943 show open cab CCKWs. David Doyle's "Standard Catalog of U.S. Military Vehicles" say "during 1942". "The GMC 6x6 and DUKW A Universal Truck" says "from July 1943". The link you reference above "1944-45 model-year" says "after July 1943" and that very site shows an open cab in a photo 27 May 1943. Did no one pay attention to what they were writing and posting? I believe that date reflects the last closed cab (serial #213651? of late April/early May '43) not the first open cab.

These uninformed people http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail-page-2.asp?armor_id=312
list so many errors it is shameful. Be careful what you read.

The truck pictured above shows the early symmetrical headlight guards with later style grille, no black out drive light, GMC logo (phased out late May/early June '43), wood steering wheel (late Sept/Oct '42), split axles. These would indicate a late 1942 early 1943 CCKW 353A1.

There are so many changes that occur on standard military vehicles this site often refers to the year of design (CCKW 1941) to keep from over complicating the issue. There chance of replacement parts during a restoration cloud the issue even further. To imply all GMC CCKW open cabs are from '44-45 is misleading.

Comments from those that know about these trucks?

These dates could be seen as a 1944 MY, as after (or really close to) July 1943 ;)

Be reassured, you're talking to someone who ask for cross-checking sources and who also checks what he believed to be true for years...

Hard no to read it with...

... in mind, with a truck shown in a 2014 movie :D

I wrote this because I saw this MY a few times, and I find the olive-drab.com a priori serious. But that's Ok for me. What about David Doyle's 1942 as default MY?

@eLMeR I visit this site for fun and the enjoyment of seeing the different models. I appreciate the knowledge many members have of various details for specific vehicles (even if I don't care for the vehicle). It is not a research project for me. There are other sites where one can dive into the exacting details of specific models.
An open cab GMC CCKW could of been produced in 1942 (according to Doyle and others). If listed as 1942 and the details indicate much later, a CCKW enthusiasts can correct it. The important issue to me is not to confuse the GMC with other WWII 6x6 or the Chevy 1.5 ton.

(Some months and searches later...)
According to this apparently well sourced site, these cabs were in fact made from 1943 onwards: see the table at the end of the page, with the frame numbers from October 1940 until May 1945.
