My guess is that this is a 24/80 Mk2, Oct 64 onwards. 15/60 was sold in Aus but only with the 1622cc engine, so in effect a 16/60 [ADO9] but I'm unsure which name was used (Aus Cambridges were similar for ADO9 with 1622cc - again unclear if A55 or A60 name). Despite what it says at http://www.co-oc.org/vehicles/wolseley-24-80 about MG/Riley rounded wings being fitted, both ADO9s had pointed fins (as UK) - see some of the pictures in the album on that page. Not great sellers in Aus as underpowered, and uncertain if ADO38 versions were offered (but as the mechanical changes had already occurred on Aus cars, this is not much more than a fin distinction). 24/80 Mk1 launched for 62 - and I think still had pointed fins as /vehicle_672691-Wolseley-24-80-ADO40-1962.html (although possible that it's a "16/60" ADO9). Our car here has rounded wings so 24/80 Mk2 most likely, which was much rarer than Mk1 due to short production. So still some questions about Aus production - which Austins/Wolseleys had pointed wings? What were the ADO9 versions with 1622cc called? I did a note some while back explaining exactly which English production Farina 1 1/2 litre cars had which wing shapes. /vehicle.php?id=645512 Wiki says that the 24/80 MkII from October 1964 had "identical styling to the British Wolseley 16/60" which had the abbreviated wings. -- Last edit: 2014-03-16 22:19:49 |

Absolutely a 24/80 MK 2. The 16/60 4-cyl was never sold in Australia. 24/80s sold well and were a common sight on the roads through to the early 1980s. Mk 2s (rounded fins) were much more common than Mk 1s (pointed fins). |

Both the cars on this page are Mark II 24/80s, although the green and white one has a non-standard paint job. Aside from a small number of cars (something like 10 or 11 I think) finished with white roofs by special order for a Queensland dealer, all 24/80s were painted in one colour only. The 16/60 was never sold in Australia. The 15/60 and 16/60 had one jacking point on each side whereas the 24/80 had two. The 24/80 Mark II also had the 15/60’s chrome casting on the front wing, rather than the simplified trim of the 16/60. Both these features are visible in the top image. |
