This scene was the reenactment of the firebombing of the Freedom Riders' bus committed by the Klu Klux Klan Alabama branch (KKK) in Birmingham, Alabama on the night of the 14th May 1961. This arson attack was committed by the most violent branch of the KKK in Alabama known as the Eastview Klavern 13, with the assistance of the Birmingham Commissioner of Public Safety, Theophilus "Bull" Connors and other members of the Alabama State Police. Klavern 13 had been named for numerous violent attacks on African-Americans and Civil Rights Protesters, including the murder of four young girls who were killed in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama on the morning of the 15th September 1963. -- Last edit: 2022-08-31 11:05:14 |
