What's wrong with Series I reference?

Morris always referred to the car as MO, like the Minor being MM. The numbered series started with the Series II cars.

That's the case with all cars: the number "1" is usually added afterwards when the second one arrives...

Nuffield referred to the cars as Series MM and Series MO, nobody ever says Series I Minor, it's always MM, I have never heard Series I Oxford anywhere else. BMC introduced the numbered Series naming on the Oxford Series II in October 1954, having by then taken over Nuffield. As I sit here I have next to me the Operation Manual, Eleventh Edition, for the Morris Oxford (Series MO) which is a later edition (1954) with the BMC badge at the bottom. There is no mention of Series I.
